Andy Cohen recently spilled some juicy new details behind Lisa Rinna’s infamous final season on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, his favorite and least favorite husband in the Housewives universe, and some behind-the-scenes gossip from Watch What Happens Live.
As fans are very well aware, Lisa’s departing season of RHOBH was explosive after she infamously alleged that Kathy Hilton had a “psychotic” off-camera meltdown during the cast’s season 12 Aspen trip.
According to Andy, the story was leaked to the media, and he quickly received a phone call from Lisa, who was jumping at the opportunity to expand on the story. However, he made a note to warn her that it may not get the reaction she intended.
“Three days before I got my star in Hollywood, they returned from Aspen where the Kathy Hilton thing happened. And all of a sudden, it’s all on TMZ what happened. There’s all these allegations, and we’re like ‘Who’s leaking it?’ and Rinna is calling me saying, ‘I gotta bring this up on the show! It didn’t happen on camera, but I have to bring it up.’ And I was like, ‘Look, you do what you gotta do … Think about if this is gonna land for you, but do whatever you want to do,” Andy revealed during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast on May 17, via Heavy.
Andy elaborated, telling host Bowen Yang that Lisa needed to “think about the optics,” but that, ultimately, the decision was hers to make.
“[Lisa] felt very strongly about it, she was very upset, and I said, ‘Do what you want to,’ but I remember saying to her, ‘Look, the perception is that you’re going after everybody, and so I just don’t know how this is going to land…” he explained.
Lisa’s attempt at disparaging Kathy ended up backfiring as many fans criticized Lisa for being cruel. She was also infamously booed at BravoCon 2022 and dubbed “the biggest bully in Hollywood.”
In other news, as Andy has been making the rounds to promote his latest book, The Daddy Diaries: The Year I Grew Up, he also let slip who’s on his short list for favorite and least favorite Housewives husband.
Andy revealed that The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Joe Gorga is in the running for the top spot.
“I think Joe Gorga has always been very funny on the show. He just cracks me up,” he told hosts Tamra Judge and Teddi Mellencamp while appearing on Two T’s in a Pod on May 19.
As for his least favorite? That honor goes to RHONJ’s one-season wonder Jim Marchese. Fans may or may not remember that John and his wife, Amber Marchese, appeared in season six, which Andy called “the one bad season” of RHONJ.
“I think that the husband of Amber, who was on the one bad season of ‘Jersey,’ it was that transition season with twins [Teresa Aprea and Nicole Napolitano] and Amber. Her husband — not a good guy,” Andy divulged.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Andy revealed that whenever the stars of Shahs of Sunset would come to the Bravo Clubhouse, chaos would undoubtedly ensue.
“I will say that the ‘Shahs of Sunset’ people would come on, and they would be so amped up from being in New York that they would just torch the place, like they would torch all their cast members, and it would be kind of unsustainable,” the 54-year-old confessed.
Lastly, Andy also revealed that he recently had a conversation with a guest on WWHL, and before going to air, he had to air grievances with the star, who he did not name.
“I was in a situation with someone who actually was a guest on ‘Watch What Happens Live,’ and I went in their dressing room before the show, and I don’t want to say — it wasn’t a confrontation, but I felt like we needed to work something out before they came on the show … [My friend] Anderson [Cooper] said ‘I cannot believe you had that conversation before the show.’ He goes, ‘You have been in the middle of so much conflicts that you have no problem now just getting to the heart of it and saying look, we need to resolve this issue,’” Andy concluded.
