2024 has witnessed an impressive surge in economic and tourism growth across Caribbean islands like the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Barbados, which are leading the way on foreign investment and sustainable development. Amidst this regional success, Americans have discovered a new shining star—Curaçao.

Over the past two years, this breathtaking island has become a top destination for US citizens thanks to its blend of Dutch heritage and modern, forward-thinking infrastructure.

For starters, this destination now boasts multiple luxurious all-inclusive properties, a key factor in its rising appeal, making it a standout example of the Caribbean’s evolving prosperity.

Let’s review the numbers. Back in 2022, the island experienced an unusual surge in American visitors, but it was too early to spot a trend.

But after reporting positive figures season after season, this August, Curaçao saw a 24 percent increase in American visitors, solidifying its status as a favorite among this demographic with 14,703 arrivals.

These results established the United States as Curaçao’s top source market and contributed to an overall 18 percent growth in total visitor numbers for the same month.

Earlier this week, the Curaçao Tourist Board announced an 18 percent rise in cruise passengers compared to 2023, with 58,291 stayover visitors—9,000 more than the previous year.

The top three source markets for August were The Netherlands (unsurprisingly, given that this is a Dutch island), the US and Colombia (which is lately appearing in all similar rankings).

As for American visitors, most hail from New York, New Jersey and Florida.

Other nationalities choosing Curaçao as their favorite Caribbean destination include Aruba, Suriname and Brazil.

The Board stated in a statement that one of the main attractions this summer was the return of the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival, which drew thousands of attendees.

All these figures mean that Curaçao welcomed 1,042,754 visitors between January and August 2024, including cruise passengers, day trippers and stayover tourists—marking a 23% year-over-year increase.

Without false modesty, these results were expected, especially after the destination was named the second-best cruise port in the world based on cruise users’ ratings, as part of the Cruiseline 2024 Member Choice Awards. This recognition was announced by the Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) in February 2024.

At this point, you might be feeling some FOMO about this Caribbean island. So, why are Americans flocking to this destination in 2024?

Its mix of European and Caribbean influences certainly gives this hotspot a unique touch, with its colorful streets, floating bridge and everlasting party scene at Mambo Beach.

But those attractions have always been there, so they don’t entirely explain this emerging success among US citizens.

According to data revealed by the Curaçao Hotel and Tourism Association, these “remarkable” tourist numbers are directly linked to the launch of new luxurious all-inclusive resorts such as the adults-only property recently refurbished by the popular Hilton brand.

Another property influencing Americans’ travel choices is the new Sandals Royal Curaçao, a beloved brand with thousands of loyal customers.

So, wait no more. Seize this fall and come visit!
