Harrison Ford has claimed that he acts like “an idiot for money” in the upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: Brave New World.
The Star Wars and Indiana Jones actor is making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as US President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who transforms into the Red Hulk.
Speaking to Variety, Ford said the Red Hulk portion of his role – which involved the use motion-capture – primarily consisted of him fooling around on camera.
When asked how he prepared for the role, Ford replied: “It took not caring. It took being an idiot for money, which I’ve done before.”
Ford insisted, though, that he wasn’t criticising the upcoming blockbuster.
“I don’t disparage it,” he continued. “I’m just saying you have to do certain things that normally your mother would not want you to do – or your acting coach, if you had one. But it’s fun, and I enjoyed it. I had a great time, and I’m delighted at the response that we got with the trailer.”
The fourth film in the Captain America series, Brave New World sees Anthony Mackie return as Sam Wilson (aka The Falcon), who has since taken on the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) peacefully retired at the end of Avengers: Endgame.
Following on from the events of The Falcon And The Winter Solider, the new film sees Sam tasked with forming a new Avengers team by the President.
The cast includes Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns (aka the Leader), Shira Haas as Sabra, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Giancarlo Esposito as a mysterious villain. Xosha Roquemore, Seth Rollins, and Rosa Salazar also star.
Brave New World is directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) and is written by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson (The Falcon And The Winter Solider), as well as Matthew Orton (Moon Night).
The first action-packed trailer for the film, which features a quick glimpse of Fords’ Red Hulk, was released last week. You can watch it here.
Captain America: Brave New World will be released in cinemas on February 14, 2025.
