Donald Trump has said US Vice President Kamala Harris will be easier to beat than Joe Biden in the forthcoming presidential elections.
The current US President announced his decision to drop out of the race yesterday (July 21), explaining that it was “in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”
Biden also offered his “full support and endorsement” for Harris to be the next Democratic presidential candidate.
Several stars have also endorsed Harris, including Charli XCX and John Legend.
But despite that, Trump has now said he believes the US Vice President “will be easier to beat than Joe Biden would have been” in a phone call to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.
Trump added: “He is the worst president in the history of our country, he goes down as the single worst president by far in the history of our country.”
Biden plans to serve out the remainder of his term in office, which ends at noon on January 20 2025.
But a number of Republicans including Elise Stefanik, House Republican Conference chair, and Republican House speaker Mike Johnson have called for him to resign, according to Sky News.
Elsewhere, Aaron Sorkin backed Harris despite a recent op-ed in which he suggested Mitt Romney should run.
The award-winning writer of The West Wing and The Social Network issued a statement via former West Wing colleague and actor Joshua Melina.
“I take it all back. Harris for America!” said Sorkin. Per Deadline, the statement was later confirmed by a Sorkin spokesperson.
A host of stars came out yesterday after Biden announced he was dropping out of the US presidential race including Ariana Grande, Lizzo and Barbra Streisand.
It comes after there had been several calls from those in the entertainment world for Biden to step down after his disastrous first presidential debate against Trump on June 27.
