During an interview with BBC’s The One Show, pop veteran Lauper heaped praise on the ‘Fortnight’ singer, detailing exactly which album she loved best.

“Look, I like her,” Lauper said. “I think she’s terrific. As an artist, she writes some wonderful songs.”

Referencing Swift’s 2020 surprise album, ‘folklore’, she continued: “I first started listening during the pandemic – when she went and hibernated and did that wonderful folk record. It was wonderful. I’m proud of her.”

The ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ singer also joked about Swift’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, who recently joined her onstage at Wembley Stadium.

“Don’t mess with her, ’cause …” said Lauper, while playfully mimicking how Kelce might throw a punch should Swift run into any trouble.

Lauper’s light-hearted comments come after Dave Grohl took aim at Swift’s ability to play live. During a Foo Fighters set at London Stadium last week (June 22), Grohl told fans: “I tell you, man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift. So we like to call our tour the ‘Errors Tour’.

“We’ve had more than a few eras, and more than a few fucking errors as well. Just a couple. That’s because we actually play live. What? Just saying. You guys like raw, live rock ‘n’ roll music, right? You came to the right fucking place.”

Swift seemingly returned the favour the following night at Wembley, saying: “Every one of my band members, every single one of our crew, my band who’s gonna be playing live for you for 3.5 hours tonight, they deserve this so much. And so does every one of my fellow performers. And you just gave that to us so generously, we will never forget it.”

As well as Lauper, Swift has found a fan in The Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde, who attended one of her ‘Eras’ tour shows recently and heaped on the praise: “I saw Taylor Swift (you may have heard of her) in concert the other day. Just shows you what a girl with a guitar can do. Last time I loved a show that much was Aldous Harding. You remember me raving about it.

Elsewhere, Lauper has shared her reasons for planning a farewell tour, and is set to play the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury tomorrow night (June 29).
