Jack Black has received abuse from Donald Trump supporters after endorsing Joe Biden for the 2024 presidential election.

The actor shared his support for the incumbent president during a Hollywood fundraiser over the weekend, the star speaking on stage after being asked by hosts Julia Roberts and George Clooney to take part.

“A few days ago, my manager called me and said George Clooney and Julia Roberts wanted me to help out the president and speak here tonight,” he explained to the audience. “And I said, ‘I am in – when and where?’

“And then they said, ‘Jack, we know how busy you are, you don’t have time! Look at all the other events that are happening tonight that you already turned down,’” he joked. “‘MC at the Fliegelman bat mitzvah, the opening of the new Jack in the Box in Oxnard, judge at the second annual Imperial Valley Avocado Festival.’ You don’t see that on Meryl Streep’s resume!

“I said, ‘I know I turned them down, but my president needs me,’” he continued, saying that he would be wearing “his kickass American flag overalls”, which he sported onstage, joking it was the “most patriotic outfit of all time”.

“When the president wins in November, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get a sweet shoutout in his victory speech for what I gave up to be here,” he concluded. “Because when democracy is at stake, Jack Black answers the call! Mr. President, you’re welcome.”

However, some Trump supporters have declared that they are no longer fans of the Jumanji star, one writing on X (formerly Twitter): “Loved him – but no more. I’ll never watch anything he’s ever made as long as I live. He’s a low IQ idiot to me now. Total loser sheep moron.”

“Disappointing. I legit think Jack Black is one of the most underrated talents in Hollywood,” another added, while a third said: “Used to like Jack Black. Never again. He’s now just another POS loudmouth scumbag. Adios, Jack.”

However, others defended the star, with Star Wars actor Mark Hamill saying “like” to the news, while another supporter said: “Let’s go. This is awesome. Jack Black is the man.”

Meanwhile, earlier this year it was reported that the Biden campaign was seeking Taylor Swift’s endorsement in an effort to help swing votes in the upcoming election. The singer previously endorsed the president in 2020, and her encouragement last year to get fans to register to vote led to record-breaking numbers on the Vote.org website.

Earlier this month, Republican rival Trump described Swift as “unusually beautiful” and questioned whether her political stance is “just an act”.

Last month, Trump was found guilty in his hush-money case on all 34 counts, making him the first-ever US president to be convicted of a crime. He will return to Manhattan on July 11 for sentencing. However, despite the verdict, Trump says he still plans to run for the presidency this November.

Elsewhere, the Biden campaign recently used Kendrick Lamar‘s diss track ‘Euphoria‘ to hit out at Trump.
