The official Silent Hill X/Twitter account has confirmed upcoming announcements about Silent Hill game and film updates, coming May 31 at midnight (BST).
The tweet informs us that there will be a second Silent Hill transmission at midnight, May 31, on the Silent Hill YouTube channel. This will likely contain updates for the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, being developed by Bloober Team.
Hopefully any updates go better than the last trailer for the horror game, that Bloober said did not “reflect the spirit” of the game. It was a very combat-heavy trailer, looking like it took a lot of inspiration from another iconic horror series, Resident Evil. Bloober said the marketing of the game is “entirely the responsibility” of publisher Konami.
This Silent Hill transmission could contain a launch date for Silent Hill 2, as it’s expected sometime in 2024, and we’re almost in the latter half of the year already. As for the movie update, that’s referring to Return to Silent Hill, an adaptation of Silent Hill 2, directed by the same person who directed the 2006 Silent Hill film, Christophe Gans. Return to Silent Hill will follow series protagonist James, still reeling after losing his wife.
As well as the video game remake of Silent Hill 2, Konami has reportedly been approaching studios regarding the possibility of porting hte original games onto modern hardware. Currently, they’re very expensive to buy second-hand, with prices as high as £80 at UK retailer CEX. That does come with a two-year warranty, but it’s still steep.
If you can’t wait until Silent Hill 2, a free game was released on PS5, Silent Hill: The Short Message. It’s a two-hour game that looks at “how modern youth communicate online and through phones, and the role that could play in a psychological horror story.”
In other news, Rainbow Six Siege fans booed the announcement of a subscription service at the Manchester Major tournament.
