2K Games has confirmed it is set to reveal a sequel to a “beloved” franchise at Summer Games Fest, which takes place next month.

Taking to social media, Summer Games Fest confirmed “2K plans to reveal the next iteration in one of 2K’s biggest and most beloved franchises” at the event, which is due to take place June 7.

No other information about the reveal has been shared, but 2K has a number of games that could fit the brief.

Earlier this year, 2K confirmed Borderlands 4 was in active development after acquiring Gearbox Studios for £365million. It comes as a big screen take on the franchise is set for release August 9. Speaking about the new Borderlands game, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said: “Look, we haven’t even announced anything of it [but] clearly, we’re working on something. I know what we’re working on and holy shit, it’s the greatest thing we’ve ever done.”

2K has yet to reveal details of a new BioShock game either. Work began on the next instalment of the BioShock franchise way back in 2019, though little else has been confirmed. A 2021 report suggested the next BioShock game would be set in a 1960s Antarctic city and is being developed by new studio Cloud Chamber.

Other fans think 2K is gearing up to release Mafia 4, with Hangar 13 confirming work had begun on a new entry in August 2022.

“I’m happy to confirm we’ve started work on an all-new Mafia project!” said general manager Roman Hladík at the time. “While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.”

All will be revealed at Summer Games Fest 2024, which takes place June 7 and will feature more than 55 partners.

In other news, Rockstar has confirmed Grand Theft Auto 6 is still coming in 2025 after rumours of delays.
