Supergiant Games has confirmed details of a technical test for Hades 2 ahead of its Early Access launch.

The sequel to 2021’s Hades was first announced in 2022 and been due to launch in Early Access last year. However, Supergiant Games pushed the release back to the second quarter of 2024 in a bid to make sure the game was “worth” the time players would invest in it.

Now, Supergiant Games has announced a technical test will take place shortly before the Early Access launch of Hades 2.

The technical test will take place to help Supergiant Games “find and solve any technical issues we might have missed thus far, to ensure anyone who tries Hades 2 in Early Access can have a smooth play experience from the start. The Technical Test contains much less content than what’s in store for the Early Access launch, and may be available only to a relatively small subset of players who express interest in participating,” they added.

Sign-ups are available via Hades 2’s Steam page, with batches of invites set to be sent out over the duration of the test. “Our process boils down to: ‘invite some players, fix any problems they run into, invite more players, and so on’,” wrote Supergiant Games. Save data won’t transfer from the test, which will include “the first major area of the game, and other early-game characters, systems, and content.”

Developers don’t know how long the technical test will run for, but they’re aiming for “longer than a week, shorter than a month.” Once it is completed, Hades 2 will launch into Early Access “soon after.”

“The first-ever sequel from Supergiant Games builds on the best aspects of the original god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler in an all-new, action-packed, endlessly replayable experience rooted in the Underworld of Greek myth and its deep connections to the dawn of witchcraft,” reads Hades 2’s Steam page.

In other news, Wizards Of The Coast has confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 is not the end of the franchise, even if Larian Studios don’t want to be involved anymore.
