In late 2023, Anya Taylor-Joy and Malcolm McRae declared their love during an extravagant Venetian wedding ceremony. But, as it turns out, the famously secretive couple officially tied the knot on their own terms almost a year prior. On April 2nd, 2024, Taylor-Joy confirmed that she and McRae said “I do” during an intimate ceremony in New Orleans, Louisiana.

“Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans,” Taylor-Joy captioned an Instagram post that featured photos from their special moment. “The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever. Happy second (first) anniversary my love…you’re the coolest.”

Ultimately, the couple’s nuptials culminated in a lavish Italian ceremony on September 30th, 2023. From the actress’ unique, fairytale-style gown to the host of star-studded attendees, here’s everything we know about Anya Taylor-Joy and Malcom McRae’s weddings—yes, both of them—below.

The Venue

The couple’s first ceremony took place in a romantic church in New Orleans that they decorated with various votives, candles, and flowers.

Almost a year later, they hosted family and friends at the picturesque Palazzo Pisani Moretta on Venice’s Grand Canal. Guests arrived Bond-style via water taxi to the locale, which was built in the 15th century as the longtime residence of the noble Pisani-Moretta family. Today, the waterfront destination serves as a ritzy boutique hotel which, presumably, the couple rented out for themselves and guests.

Following the couple’s nuptials, the palace doubled as a reception space where guests donned masquerade-style masks. The following day, per People, they newlyweds shared a nearby brunch at the St.Regis.

The Guest List

Naturally, Taylor-Joy and McRae kept guests to a minimum for their first wedding. Model Cara Delevingne, a longtime friend of Taylor-Joy, was in attendance as well as photographer Sebastian Faena.

Over in Venice, Taylor-Joy and McRae drew a rather glitzy guest list. In addition to close family and friends, guests included Delevingne, Julia Garner, Nicholas Hoult (who sparked marriage rumors of his own), Keleigh Sperry, Miles Teller, and more.

The Dress Code

On both occasions, attire was kept rather formal. However, it appears as though the dress code in Venice called for the 1920s glamour. Garner, in particular, looked straight out of the decade in a plunging velvet dress complete with flapper-like fringe detailing. Delevingne kept things classic in a vintage-inspired pinstripe tuxedo and a plunging waistcoat while Sperry delighted in a blue feathered number.

The Dress

As a longtime Dior ambassador, it’s only fitting that Taylor-Joy’s dress was custom made by the French brand. Instead of a traditional all-white dress, though, the actress sported a tiered, nude ball gown that she said was “beautifully embroidered with our love story.” Taylor-Joy paired her dress with a dramatic, sweeping veil while McRae wore a traditional tuxedo.

With a dress that good, it’s no wonder Taylor-Joy wanted to wear it twice—she slipped into the same dress for both the Louisiana and Venetian ceremonies.
