TikTok has designed various plans to pay money to its creators in exchange for content they create and engage users. You might think a top-notch creator on TikTok makes tons of money just by creating and sharing its content. However, this might not be the case for all creators.
Creators have multiple ways to make money on TikTok. First, they can sign brand deals and get money directly from the brands. Another way is to make money out of TikTok’s live stream gifting or subscription features. Finally, creators can join e-commerce affiliate programs within TikTok Shop.
In addition to these methods, creators can often make money through their content performance and the views they get on the platform. The more viewers a video gets, the more money it generates for its creator. This is currently the most straightforward monetizing method for content creators on TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook.
TikTok has launched multiple payment programs to reward creators
Creator Fund, Pulse ad-revenue sharing program, and Creativity Program are all a part of TikTok initiatives to keep creators on the platform and reward them for their content.
Creators often complain about the little money they make through Creator Fund and Pulse ad-revenue sharing. A top notch creator on TikTok might make a few hundred dollars per month based on his video performance. With around 1 million followers on TikTok, Vi Luong says he makes between $150 to $300 a month in the Creator Fund.
The TikTok Creator Fund program was launched in 2020 and promised to distribute $1 billion between creators in the next three years. The platform has yet to stay tight-lipped about how much it paid to creators. The money will be given to creators with at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the previous 30 days. View counts, video engagement, and the location where the video is watched are the determining factors for TikTok to monetize a video.
TikTok’s Creativity Program is the next plan to allow creators to make money. The program aims to pay “higher average gross revenue” for videos longer than one minute. Similarly, eligible TikTok accounts must have at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in the past 30 days.
Another monetizing program is TikTok Pulse. This is basically an ad revenue-sharing option that shares almost half of the revenue with eligible creators. Again, the program is open to creators with at least 100,000 followers. Most users have reported a $7 to $8 range for the Pulse RPMs, while some also mentioned an RPM closer to $3.
