Baldur’s Gate 3 has just fully launched as of August 3 and it’s already having some crazy success. As a player, it’s the kind of game you sit back and take notice of. And if you’re a developer of said game, you likely get a rush of feelings of joy from the overwhelming amount of fun players are having engaging with your creation.

That’s what Larian Studios is going through right now. As the studio behind this massive RPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, it’s now getting to sit and watch players fall in love with the game world, its characters, and all of the wonderful moments yet to come. And all of this success is coming just one day after its full launch.

Truth be told, Baldur’s Gate 3 has technically been available for a few years, but only in early access and many things have changed since then. Now, forging a path ahead post-launch, Baldur’s Gate 3 is catching the attention of more and more people. That kind of success would naturally cause some to consider turning a profit by selling the company. But not Larian Studios. According to the CEO Swen Vincke, selling isn’t even being considered. “I’m getting older, but I’m certainly not done yet,” Vincke said in an interview with Bloomberg (via PC Gamer).

The response was an answer to a question regarding Microsoft’s interest in acquiring Larian Studios back in 2021. A detail which came to light during Microsoft’s case with the FTC over the Activision Blizzard acquisition.

Baldur’s Gate 3 earns success due to Larian’s passion for the project

Larian has been in this game for a while. And throughout the years much of the success can probably attributed to the studio’s passion for its creations. Vincke nearly says as much when discussing Baldur’s Gate 3 and that he has no intentions to sell.

Vincke states that with him having final authority over creative decisions as opposed to a large corporation, the studio is free to explore. He also says he’s very invested in the gameplay of the games the studio makes. Noting that decisions are based on what’s best for the game and not for a larger profit.

This passion for the game has led it to an overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam. And that success has certainly earned Vincke and the rest of Larian Studios some well-deserved rest. You can play Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC via Steam and GOG today, and on console via PS5 on September 6. It’s also available to stream via GeForce NOW if you own the Steam version.
