Monster Hunter Now is an upcoming AR game from Niantic, and yesterday the game was given a release date during a livestream showcase on the game’s official YouTube channel. Niantic, the studio behind Pokémon GO fame, has continued to try and replicate that game’s success ever since its breakout hit years ago. But has not managed to do so. A Harry Potter game has come and gone. The studio has also made the decision to shutter numerous other titles that were already out or in production. Including a Catan game, NBA World, Minecraft Earth, Marvel World of Heroes, and a Transformers game.

Despite sunsetting these game projects, Niantic has not been deterred. The studio is moving ahead with Monster Hunter Now. It’s also going to continue supporting Pokémon GO. As well as two other games, Peridot and Pikmin Bloom.

Monster Hunter Now will release on September 14

Those looking forward to checking the game out won’t have to wait too long. Because it will officially release on September 14. Capcom, which is partnering Niantic to make the game, revealed the release date during yesterday’s showcase.

Although when the game launches was but one small piece of information. Much of the showcase was actually about the game mechanics and features. Such as what weapons players will have access to at launch. One of the game’s unique features is the fact that you can actually play it horizontally. You can still play it vertically, of course. But Capcom wanted it to be possible for players to turn the phone horizontal if they preferred to play the game this way. So players will have the option to play it however they want.

The devs also revealed 13 monsters that players will get to hunt within the game, all of which are from Monster Hunter: World. However, there will also be monsters that aren’t in Monster Hunter: World, as the game is a project of the Monster Hunter series as a whole. According to the devs, the game will be constantly updated to include new monsters too. Some of which players may not have seen before in any of the other games.
