dbrand has just launched Retro Darkplates to “turn back the clock” and give your PS5 some iconic N64 flair. If you’ve never heard of dbrand, the company is well-known for a few things. Skins for the multitude of popular electronics out there, its snarky marketing, and doing its damnedest to piss off companies like Sony and Nintendo.
The company also makes a lot of really cool products and the Retro Darkplates are one of the latest offerings. If you were lucky enough to own an N64 back in the day, the colorful transparent models were all the rage. These new Darkplates bring that same style and give the outer hardware a transparent look. It’s not just the covers on the sides either. Even the curved glossy section on the front of the console that covers the ports and buttons has this design. This isn’t a replaceable plate though, and is instead a vinyl skin that you apply. Still, it looks pretty good when matched up with the plates.
PS5 Retro Darkplates come in four colors
If you want to snag one of these Darkplates for your own console, good news. You can do just that. Just be prepared to cough up at least $69. Because that’s how much the Retro Darkplates costs. That price goes up to $84 if you get the pack, which is what comes with the matching middle skin. There are four colors available including Smoke Black, Atomic Purple, Ice Blue, and Fire Orange.
In the pack you’ll get the Darkplates, a microfiber cloth, the mesh grille vent filters, the middle skin, and a bottom skin. For an extra $16 you can even tack on the Retro Light Strips pack which adds matching colors to the light bars on the PS5. Worth noting is the light strips pack comes with light strips in Ice Blue, Fire Orange, and Atomic Purple.
Also worth noting is that the official PS5 Console Covers are $55, and the non-transparent Darkplates from dbrand are $59. So if you aren’t particularly fond of transparent gadgets, both of those options cost less money.
