Teresa Giudice opened up about the one challenge she has in her marriage to her husband, Luis Ruelas, during a recent interview.

As the Real Housewives of New Jersey couple discussed their first year of marriage and the hardships they’ve faced due to their roles on the show, Luis explained why he called Teresa’s ex-husband, Joe Giudice, on the day they tied the knot.

“I called him, basically just let him know that everything’s gonna be OK — that we’re a team,” Luis told Us Weekly in the latest issue of their magazine. “It felt right to call him and talk to him, because he’s a good father. He definitely makes lemonade outta lemons, and it’s something that people don’t see out there. And I just wanted to acknowledge that for him.”

Teresa and Joe were married for 20 years and share four daughters, Gia Giudice, 22, Gabriella Giudice, 19, Milania Giudice, 17, and Audriana Giudice, 13. And, because Luis planned to be “all hands on deck” with the children, he felt the call was important.

As Luis also noted, he shares a similar dynamic with his former wife, Marisa Dimartino, the mother of his two sons, Nicholas and Louie Jr. In fact, as RHONJ fans may have heard, he and Teresa spent time with Marisa in Atlantic City last year as they celebrated the birthday of Louie Jr.

“We spent the weekend together, we went out for some dinner, and it was so nice,” Luis recalled. “It was a fun night. It was really nice.”

As for the future, Teresa and Luis are planning to travel to the Bahamas for another family visit with Joe.

“I’m so happy we did [it],” Teresa said of their initial visit in 2021. “It made my daughter so happy. And I was like, ‘Thank you so much for doing that.’ It wasn’t my idea, it was his. So [Louie] gets to take the credit for it. But then after I did it, I’m like, ‘Thank you,’ because they really made the girls so happy.”

Although marriage has been “great” so far for the couple, Teresa admitted to one “hard thing.”

“The only hard thing has been, like, the show, unfortunately,” Teresa also said during their interview with Us Weekly. “This is not what he’s used to. So, it is like, ‘Poor guy.’”

“[He] didn’t meet just a regular random girl. So that was, I’m sure, challenging for him. I feel bad that I had to put him through that,” Teresa admitted.

Meanwhile, after noting that RHONJ has been an “issue,” Luis said he and Teresa have a great life at home.

“Putting aside the show ‘cause it’s a separate issue — it’s a different kind of environment — real life for us has been amazing,” Luis explained. “Waking up with your partner [is nice]… When you’re in the right [relationship], you kind of know it. It’s like every day feels short.”

“We do dinners every night,” he said.

“We cook together,” Teresa added.

“It’s really nice to have, like, a lot of structure here in the house with the girls,” Luis continued. “We have four dogs. We live for our kids. It’s really beautiful. You get to this place and actually have time. We have time to focus on the children and what’s important, where they’re going, what their next steps are.”
