An interesting bug has popped up for PlayStation Plus users over the last few days that seems to try and limit your play time. According to engadget, citing numerous reports from users on Reddit and other forums, PlayStation Plus users have encountered a bug that warns them games will expire in 15 minutes. This happens while users are playing a game and then 15 minutes after the alert pops up, players are booted to the PlayStation home screen.

According to the reports, this happens every 15 minutes. If players are booted after receiving the alert, they can boot back into the game and continue playing. But, it seems they likely end up getting another alert and then end up booted out of the game again.

It’s a strange bug to say the least, and one that doesn’t seem to be encountered by all users. As engadget notes that it was able to replicate the bug. But also that some users report not having any problems with it. Essentially the bug seems inconsistent. So you may not have any issues yourself. Sony also doesn’t seem to have acknowledged the existence of the bug yet. Nor is any indication that the company will. As it may just choose to fix the bug and move on.

The bug only seems to impact games in the PlayStation Plus Catalog

If you’re worried that every game you try to play now will cause this issue, don’t be. Unless every game you plan to play is one from the PlayStation Plus catalog. It seems that only PS Plus Catalog titles are causing the alert to show up, then booting players 15 minutes later.

And again it isn’t happening for all players. So you may not even encounter the issue in the first place. The downside is if you do encounter the bug, it doesn’t look like there’s a fix yet. So you end up just having to deal with it for the time being.

If this happens, your options are to simply play a game that isn’t from the PlayStation Plus Catalog, or step away from the console. Neither are ideal options if you were looking to get in some game time with a specific title. But as of right now there’s no way around it.
