Google I/O is going on right now, and the company is announcing a lot of amazing and interesting projects. During the Google Photos keynote, Google announced the upcoming Magic Editor feature. This was also explained in a blog post from the company.

If you’re curious about what else Google is announcing, you should check out more of the coverage we have at Android Headlines. Google is announcing a bunch of new software and hardware, so you’ll want to stay tuned.

Google announced the Magic Editor tool for Google Photos

The search giant introduced the Magic Eraser tool back in 2021, and it’s been a popular tool in Google Photos. It allows you to delete distracting background elements in your photo. The company then unveiled the camouflage feature last year which lets you hide background items.

Now, Google is about to take that to the next level, as the company announced the upcoming Magic Editor feature for Google Photos. Using this tool, Google Photos will analyze your pictures and look for ways that they can be improved.

Maybe the subject is not centered or maybe the colors are flat. The system will give you the ability to change those things. Google Photos will use a combination of its existing AI prowess and generative AI to move objects in the photo and fill in the gap left by it.

If a section of the image needs to be reconstructed from the ground up, the system will also be able to do that as well. In the example below, the child in the image is off-center, and the balloons are cut off. Using the Magic Editor, he was moved to the center, the rest of the balloons were reconstructed, and the edge of the bench was reconstructed to keep it a full image.

The company didn’t give us a definite date to expect this feature. However, we know that it’s going to go into testing for Pixel users later this year. We assume that it will hit the Pixel 7 phones first, but that’s just speculation.
