Source Shares What Led to Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann Split and How He Feels, Plus Find Out Where They Stand Amid Divorce Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann are headed for a split after 11 years of marriage. And according to a series of insiders, their divorce, which Kroy is reportedly “not bitter” about, was in the works for a while.

As one source said the Real Housewives of Atlanta star had been planning her split for “a long time” and another revealed she and Kroy are not currently cordial amid their ongoing financial struggles, a third shared how Kroy is feeling about the breakup.

After Kim filed for divorce, claiming her marriage to Kroy is “irretrievably broken with no hope of reconciliation” and requesting primary physical and joint legal custody of their four minor children, 11-year-old son Kroy “KJ” Jagger Jr., 10-year-old son Kash Kade, and nine-year-old twins Kaia Rose and Kane Ren, an insider told Radar Online on May 8 that Kroy is “not bitter.”

According to the report, money played a role in Kim’s divorce filing, in which she also requested spousal support from the former NFL player. As fans may have heard, Kim and Kroy owe $1.1 million to the IRS and $15,000 to Georgia in past due taxes, and in February, their Georgia home, where they both still reside, went into foreclosure.

In other Kim and Kroy news, a friend told PEOPLE on May 8 that Kim had been planning her split for “a long time” as they attempted to navigate through their money problems.

“She had not told anyone, not even family,” the friend revealed. “She didn’t tell anyone, even [her] friends were kept in the dark … The money has been a huge issue. The million-dollar tax [payment] was just way too much pressure on them.”

Another source, who revealed there was no infidelity involved in Kim and Kroy’s split, also said that their finances led to their breakup as they admitted the ex-couple is not in a good place.

“There’s no cheating on either side. The money has a lot to do with the split, but there were other factors,” the source stated. “He’s been managing [the family] for a long time, so he technically did have a job. They’re not on good terms right now.”

And even though it’s been a long time coming, calling it quits wasn’t easy for Kim and Kroy.

“They are a very tight-knit family, and this isn’t easy for any of the children,” the friend said.

In addition to their four younger children, Kim and Kroy also share adult daughters, Brielle Biermann, 26, and Ariana Biermann, 21, who Kroy adopted.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta season 15 airs Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo.
