Sweet potatoes are a great treat for dogs in moderation—they’re loaded with vitamins and minerals and tasty to boot. This single-ingredient recipe just requires a few sweet potatoes and an oven. You will just slice your sweet potatoes into skinny planks or coins, depending on the size of your dog, then dehydrate them in the oven for a few hours. You could also use a food dehydrator if you have one on hand. Let’s get baking!

Prep: 10 mins

Bake: 3 hrs

Total: 3 hrs 10 mins

Servings: 18 to 20 treats

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes

Directions

Step One
Preheat oven to 250°F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper; set aside. Using sharp knife, slice potatoes lengthwise into 1/4-inch thick slices or crosswise into 1/4-inch thick coins for smaller treats.

Step Two
Place sweet potato planks or coins on prepared baking sheets. Bake about 3 hours or until fairly dried out and chewy, turning once. Remove from oven and transfer sweet potato chews from the pan to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step Three
Transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks.

Tips

To make in a food dehydrator: Arrange sweet potato planks in a single layer on mesh-lined dehydrator trays. Dehydrate at 125°F for 8 to 10 hours or until planks appear dried out and chewy. Cool completely before storing.
