Most people in the tech world know to keep their apps updated, but a ton of users don’t. Most smartphone users leave their apps unmaintained. This is something that Google wants to help, as the company is going to roll out a useful update. If your app keeps crashing, the Play Store will tell you to update the app, according to a new blog post (via Android Police).

Keeping your apps updated is important for several reasons. For starters, it ensures that the app is at its best performance and contains the latest features. App developers will add stability improvements and bug fixes to the app along with other goodies. There could also be other important additions, so it’s best to keep them updated.

If you want to check your available app updates, go to the Google Play Store and tap on your profile picture. In the resulting popup, tap on the Manage apps & device section. There, you’ll see a section that shows all of your updates. Tap on the Update all option to automatically update those apps.

The Play Store will tell you to update your app if it keeps crashing

It’s annoying when an app keeps crashing while you’re trying to play it. This is why Google is bringing a new addition to the Play Store. When you’re using an app that’s constantly crashing, you’ll get a popup pushing you to update the app to the latest version. It’ll only do this if there’s an update available.

It’s important to note that this is a Play Store update and not an Android update. This means that you won’t need to be on the latest version of the OS to use it. In fact, you’ll get this popup if you’re running versions as old as Android 7.

Sometimes, an update will come out for an app that you don’t want to install, or you might not have the storage available to do so. In that case, getting constant popups could get annoying. Fortunately, Google will take into account how many times the popup appears for the same app if you don’t update it.

Sometimes, we just need a little reminder to keep our apps updated, and it seems that Google wants to help in that regard. This addition could also help the developers in several ways.
