The ability to share your game clips and screenshots to Twitter directly from the Xbox console has been disabled. It’s also no longer possible to share clips or screenshots to Twitter from the Windows Game Bar on PC.
Reasons for the feature being removed weren’t described in detail but Microsoft says that it had to disable the ability. As pointed out by engadget, it may have something to do with Twitter charging for access to the API. A not so paltry sum of at least $42,000 a month for Enterprise access. To which Microsoft likely declined to pay and instead decided to remove the ability to share things from the console.
According to the tweet from the official Xbox account, direct sharing was disabled sometime on April 20. As of now it looks like PlayStation users can still share directly from the console. There’s no word for now on if Microsoft will choose to re-enable it at any point. Thankfully users still have another method for sharing.
Xbox users can still share to Twitter from the mobile app
While sharing directly from the console is certainly easier, it’s not the only way to share clips or screenshots. Microsoft confirms that users can still share their favorite moments on Twitter through Xbox mobile app. It’s an extra step or two, but it works.
And the end result is the same as users get to share their content with their followers. This works for both Android and iOS versions of the app as well.
If you don’t use or care for the app, there’s always the option of uploading from the computer to the Twitter website. Though this method will take a little longer since you’ll need to move your clips to a flash drive first.
We have had to disable the ability to share game uploads to Twitter directly from the console and Game Bar on Windows. You can still share your favorite moments to Twitter via the Xbox app for Android and iOS.
