If you’ve ever wanted to hook up your old PS1 or PS2 console but you’d just prefer to use a wireless controller, 8Bitdo has you covered with its new Retro Receiver accessory. Now the retro receiver is not an entirely new accessory from the company. It has offered them before but they were specifically for other classic console hardware.

This new receiver is specifically designed for the PS1 and PS2. Alleviating any need to have to plug in those older DualShock or DualShock 2 controllers. Instead, you can plug in the receiver. Then hook up your more modern (and likely more comfortable) DualShock 4 or DualSense controllers. If you’re also a big fan of the PS5 DualSense controller, you may prefer to use it for everything across any platform where it will work. Now that includes PS1 and PS2 thanks to the latest retro receiver from 8Bitdo.

The 8Bitdo retro receiver for PS1/PS2 is compatible with tons of controllers

This receiver won’t just open up options for using the DualSense and DualShock 4 on your older PlayStation systems. It’s also compatible with tons of other controllers. This includes other modern hardware like the Xbox Wireless controller, and even most of 8Bitdo’s wireless controllers.

So whatever strikes your fancy, you seem to be able to use it. And if you want to use the receiver for Windows, you can simply plug it in to your PC using a USB-C cable and then connect wirelessly to your chosen controller. The PS1/PS2 Retro Receiver retails for $24.99 and can be picked up from Amazon or directly from 8Bitdo if you so desire.

In addition to a wide compatibility for controller types, the receiver has a few extra features. 8Bitdo says it support lag-free plug and play and firmware updates. There’s also support for controller vibration in games that have that. Even though the receiver supports both PS1 and PS2, it only currently comes in a color that matches the PS1. Here’s hoping 8Bitdo will release a black version that matches the PS2 console for those that might want it. That being said, 8Bitdo has given no indication that it plans to do this. It does however have multiple color options for some of its other adapters.
